Spokane Symphony Classics 1: “Opening Night Romance”
Sept. 9-10. Season opener featuring Zemlinsky’s highly romantic work, The Mermaid, a beautiful orchestrated rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale. Rising star Jessica Lee, violin, and Peter Stumpf, former principal cellist of the L.A. Philharmonic, will dazzle in Brahms’ Concerto for Violin and Cello. Strauss’ delightful Blue Danube Waltz has become an unofficial Austrian anthem. Eckart Preu, conductor. Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Individual tickets for the Classics concerts will go on sale on Thursday, August 10.
