“Tales of Tragedy”
Oct. 21-22. Conrad Tao returns to perform Saint-Saëns’ exquisite Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most challenging works of the piano repertoire. The concerto is book-ended by three stirring tone poems – Franck’s brilliant “The Accursed Huntsman,” Richard Strauss’ somber take on Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” and the charming tale of a peasant rogue in “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks,” also by Strauss. Showtime is 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
