Matt Santangelo

In 1997, Santangelo was the co-winner of the WCC Newcomer/Freshman award. The next three seasons he was selected to the WCC’s First Team. In 2001, he was named an AP All-America Honorable Mention. He is the career assists leader in Gonzaga history (668). Now, he is the executive director of Hoopfest and organizes various youth basketball programs, including Spokane AAU.
On the 1999 team’s run to the Elite 8: “We could out-execute a more athletic team. ... We played with a big chip on our shoulder, and that was a theme in the early development of Gonzaga. That ‘us-against-the-world’ mentality really lends itself to a successful run in March.”
Casey Calvary

Calvary was an AP All-America Honorable Mention in 2001. Twice he was named to the WCC’s First Team. His 207 career blocks remain the most in Gonzaga history, and his 757 rebounds are eight-most all-time. He lives in Spokane and is the Vice President of Sales at Kinetic Orthopedics.
On why he stuck around in Spokane: “I think it’s a good combination of amazing people, great climate. You can ski in the winter and go to the lake in the summer. The schools are great, real estate is affordable. … It’s a great place to raise a family.”
Dan Dickau
At Gonzaga: 2000-2002

Record in NCAA tournament games: 2-2
NBA: Played from 2002 to 2008 … Drafted 28th overall by the Sacramento Kings and was traded to the Atlanta Hawks that night … He was traded eight times.
After transferring from the University of Washington, Dickau played two seasons with Gonzaga. He was named to the AP All-America First Team in 2002, the first Bulldogs player to earn that distinction. He was named WCC Player of the Year as well that season. Now, Dickau lives in Spokane and is a color commentator for Gonzaga games on KHQ and Root.
Dickau on how Gonzaga sustains its success: “The consistency of leadership at the top, and that goes all the way to (athletic director) Mike Roth. He loves it in Spokane, knows his coach loves it here. … Coach (Few) has had the opportunity to go places but he’s always felt he has just as good of a chance to win a national championship at Gonzaga as any other place.”
Adam Morrison
At Gonzaga: 2003-2006

NBA: Played from 2006-2010 … Drafted third overall by the Charlotte Bobcats, the highest of any Gonzaga player … was a member of championship Los Angeles Lakers teams in 2009 and 2010.
A Mead graduate, Adam Morrison was the hometown hero for Gonzaga, leading the nation in scoring in 2006 with 28.1 points per game. He and Duke’s J.J. Redick were co-players of the year in 2006. He was a member of the AP All-America First Team that year as well. His 1,867 points rank him third on Gonzaga’s all-time scoring list.
Dickau on Morrison’s significance: “With Adam being Player of the Year, you’re only looking at a handful of programs in the country the last 25 to 30 that have legit player of the year type candidates.”

The Spokesman-Review's Northwest Passages Community Forum and SWX are hosting an evening with some of biggest names in the history of the Gonzaga University men's basketball program.
Casey Calvary. Matt Santangelo. Dan Dickau. Adam Morrison. They are "Gonzaga Legends" who helped turn a small university in Spokane into one of college basketball's most elite programs.
Our "Gonzaga Legends" event will give Bulldog fans an exclusive chance to hear the stories behind the biggest moments in the team's history directly from the stars themselves. Hosted by SWX sports director Sam Adams and Spokesman-Review college basketball writer Jim Meehan, along with longtime S-R columnist John Blanchette, the evening will be filled with highlights from each player's career, never-before-shared insights, lots of laughs and more than a few surprises that no true-blue Zags fan will want to miss.
The evening will be broadcast live on SWX.
Before the event, the Gonzaga cheerleaders and Spike will be there to get the photos and selfies that are too hard to get when you're at a game in The Kennel. After the event, there will be an autograph session with the "Gonzaga Legends" players that will feature exclusive posters of each player from their days as a Bulldog. Everyone in attendance will get all four collector posters for free, as well as a 2018-2019 basketball schedule poster from Gonzaga University.

Includes event ticket, photo opportunity with Gonzaga cheerleaders and Spike in theater lobby before event begins, four exclusive posters of the "Gonzaga Legends" and access to a post-event autograph session with the players. General Admission seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
VIP Admission — $40
- Reserved seating in the first three rows at the "Gonzaga Legends" event at the Fox Theater.
- A glass of wine or beer and light appetizers during a private event with some of the "Gonzaga Legends" players at 5:30 p.m. at Tamarack Public House, 912 W. Sprague Ave.
- A long-sleeved "Legends" event shirt that can not be purchased separately.
- Early access to the evening's four exclusive "Legends" player posters, as well as a fifth commemorative poster only available to VIPs.
