State 2B preview: Northwest Christian boys try to repeat, St. George girls hope to rebound

The fifth-seeded Northwest Christian boys are a senior-laden team looking to repeat as State 2B champs. They’ll be joined by two other local squads: 11th-seeded St. George’s and No. 12 Liberty. NWC (23-1, 16-0) won the Northeast 2B League going away while St. George’s (17-8) finished in second in the North Division behind the Crusaders. Liberty (18-6) won the South Division.

Traditional hunting camps losing ground in modern world

Between development of once-wild lands and the ever-expanding sprawl of the suburbs, and a general apathy toward the sport from an over-stimulated younger generation, traditional hunting camps across the country are being phased out in favor of day trips on public lands, pricy and exclusive hunt clubs or even more expensive options such as guided tours or stocked ranches.

Weekend prep basketball recap: League races finish up with intriguing matchups

It’s the last week of the regular season across all the leagues in Washington and most of Idaho, though Inland Empire 5A girls districts start on Friday. There are some intriguing matchups this week including in Southeast 1B girls, where Oakesdale is ranked No.1 and hosts perennial state champ and second-ranked Colton with the league title on the line on Saturday.

It’s a rarity that a high school basketball team returns two all-league players, including the reigning league MVP. It’s ever rarer still that one has already signed a letter of intent to play Division I and the other – a four-year starter at that – will already have his associate’s degree by the time he graduates high school.

University defeats Mead to capture GSL slowpitch softball title

It took two extra days and several bags of drying compound, but University finally got its slowpitch softball championship. Kylee Hughes went 3 for 3 with a home run, Kirsten Anstrom had three hits and scored twice and University beat visiting Mead 10-1 in the Greater Spokane League slowpitch softball title on Friday.
