Spokane Chiefs fall in first trip to Medicine Hat since WHL championship series 3-2

BOX SCOREThe Spokane Chiefs made their first trip to Medicine Hat, Alberta, since the Western Hockey League Championship Series in May. The teams didn’t play for the same stakes on Tuesday, but it was still a close, spirited game between two strong WHL contenders at Co-op Place.

Friday’s matchup at ONE Spokane Stadium could have been a “show me” game for Mt. Spokane. The Wildcats entered play 4-1 with a close win over Mead as their only signature win thus far. Their host, Lewis and Clark, came in with two wins and a reputation for playing hard – no matter the score.

Thursday's game was already a tough assignment for one-win Shadle Park facing undefeated Gonzaga Prep – the Highlanders had been shut out three of their last four games and had given up 61 points in a game twice.

Week 5 is in the books, and the two Greater Spokane League divisions have pretty much split into the haves and the have-nots for this season. And since we now know (at least unofficially) how many teams will qualify for postseason, head-to-head matchups between the contenders down the stretch will be critical for seeding the Week 10 Round-of-32.
