Still in hunt

It wasn’t a typical Lewiston High football game Friday. Nothing has been typical for Lewiston, though, recently. The Bengals, who have been dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage the past three weeks, rose up in a big way Friday.

Panthers pounce

Coaches often refrain from tooting the horn of their own flesh and blood. Not only did Mead coach Judy Kight not mind doing so Saturday, she practically brought out an orchestra after the Panthers captured their fifth Crossover Classic volleyball championship with a 19-25, 25-21, 15-13 win over Idaho 4A state power Sandpoint at Ferris High School’s Gilman Court.

Voice of a leader

Cade Mendoza sometimes wonders where he’d be in life if he didn’t make a conscious decision to take a different path. It’s not that the Coeur d’Alene High senior was a trouble-making kid in the sixth grade. It’s just that he had an opportunity to move in a direction destined for trouble.

State meet will get back on course

Vikings turn back Lake City

Jordon Eborall can usually tell how well his Coeur d’Alene High boys soccer team is going to play during prematch warmups. The senior midfielder thought the Vikings might struggle Thursday afternoon. As it turned out, though, he was wrong.

Idaho preps: Playoff chase begins in earnest

Ah, there’s a chance for rain Friday, and the evening temperature should be about 20 degrees colder than a week ago. It can only mean one thing – high school football games for area teams begin to carry postseason significance.

Lake City senior aims to make run for title

When Lake City long-distance runner C.J. Helbling was a freshman, he was an immediate challenger for a state championship. Now in his senior year, Helbling continues to be a state-title contender. And if he doesn’t capture what has proven so far to be elusive, he will be completely at peace.
