Mt. Spokane takes big halftime lead on way to 38-14 victory

From start to finish, it was the most complete game this season for the Mt. Spokane football team. The starting defense threw a shutout for three quarters and the offense, behind quarterback Mitchell Speer and fullback Dalton Dixon, did more than enough as the Wildcats handled the Ferris Saxons 38-14 in a Greater Spokane League crossover game Friday at Albi Stadium.

Gonzaga Prep running back Mason Plese rises to top with unselfish style

Not long after the 2014 football season was over, Gonzaga Prep coach Dave McKenna told backup running back Mason Plese he was the Bullpups’ projected starter for 2015. At G-Prep, they list projected starters in pencil no matter who they are – including the likes of standouts Bishop Sankey and Travis Long, both in the NFL. Starting jobs are earned, not given, at G-Prep.

Gonzaga Prep beats Mt. Spokane 49-21

One would have thought there was a track meet going on Thursday evening the way decathlete-hopeful Nick Johnson was running around. The Gonzaga Prep senior was a one-man wrecking crew in the first half. Then in the second half the Bullpups’ defense showed it has some playmakers, too.

University takes 59-7 win over North Central

For a fourth straight week, there was much for University football coach Rob Bartlett to like. The standouts were numerous as University suffocated the North Central Indians 59-7 in a Greater Spokane League crossover game Thursday at Albi Stadium.

Greg Lee: Let a tie stand as a tie

I’ve never seen anything like it and probably never will. The Greater Spokane League-opening cross country dual Sept. 16 between three-time defending champ Central Valley, Lewis and Clark and Mt. Spokane at Siemers Farm on picturesque Greenbluff was everything the coaches anticipated and more. None would have predicted, though, what would transpire.

Pick 6: Again with the same picks?

All the fun was sucked out of Pick 6 last week simply because Sam Adams and I had no differences. We went 5-1. I’ve gone 5-1 each week.

Defending champion G-Prep handles Mead

There’s a reason the Gonzaga Bullpups are the defending Greater Spokane League 4A champions, and they showed why Friday night. The Bullpups’ athletic defense was stellar from start to finish and the offense took over as the game progressed, culminating in a 30-7 decision over the Mead Panthers at Albi Stadium.
