Lacy returns in WSU’s victory over Huskies

PULLMAN – Washington State’s bleak beginning to Pac-12 play ended in the cheeriest ways possible on Saturday: a 72-67 win over rival Washington and the return of DaVonte Lacy to the Cougars’ lineup. Through the first half of conference play the Cougars (9-12, 2-7 Pac-12) are looking up at almost every Pac-12 team. But for the first time since losing Lacy nearly a month ago, WSU looked like a team ready to pick and finish a fight.

Win over Huskies would feel good

PULLMAN – Riding a four-game losing streak, few things would enliven the Washington State men’s basketball team’s spirit like a win today over rival Washington. With losses mounting, WSU (8-12, 1-7 Pac-12) would likely need a Pac-12 tournament championship to have a shot at the postseason. But coach Ken Bone said that apathy hasn’t set in. A rivalry win over UW (13-8, 5-3) to end the first half of conference play could only help.

Cougars’ Lacy nears return from rib injury

PULLMAN – The Washington State offense has struggled in conference play but help could be on the way. According to coach Ken Bone, DaVonte Lacy, WSU’s leading scorer at 17.7 could be back from his rib injury in time for the Cougars’ game against Washington on Saturday. Lacy has played in just one of WSU’s eight conference games, and for only 11 minutes. After missing the conference opener against Arizona while recovering from an appendectomy, Lacy returned to play against Arizona State but injured his ribs in the first half.

Cougars’ offense still basket case

PULLMAN – Coach Ken Bone and the Washington State men’s basketball team spent 15 minutes talking in the locker room after Sunday’s 71-44 loss to Oregon. They talked about staying focused in spite of a seven-game stretch that has produced just one win, about preparing for Saturday’s game against Washington, and about how UO (14-5, 2-5 Pac-12) is better than its record.

Washington State takes on free-falling Ducks

The Washington State men’s basketball team has struggled in the early part of Pac-12 play, but has a chance to collect a win today against Oregon, a program in flux. The Cougars have lost six of their last seven games while the Ducks come to Pullman riding a five-game losing streak. During coach Dana Altman’s four years the Ducks have found success with players who transferred from another school, and were able to quickly join with the players already on the roster to form a cohesive unit. But despite talented players such as UNLV’s Mike Moser and Houston’s Joseph Young joining the team, this year’s squad has struggled in Pac-12 play, particularly defensively.
