Cougs win in Pullman before hitting road again

PULLMAN – With only one real home game in its first six Pac-12 contests, the Washington State men’s basketball team was in a must-win situation on Sunday evening against Utah. It came down to the final shot but the Cougars pulled off the victory, beating the Utes, 49-46, for their first Pac-12 win. “When you only have one game in Beasley, your home court, out of your first six, you better win it because it doesn’t get any easier,” coach Ken Bone said.

Cougars seeking to build on loss

PULLMAN – The Washington State men’s basketball team may not have gotten the win in Wednesday’s 71-70 overtime loss to No. 15 Colorado, but the Cougars (7-8, 0-3 Pac-12) didn’t come away entirely empty- handed. The game, possibly the Cougars’ most impressive of the year considering the opponent and the circumstances, gave them a big dose of confidence. Playing without leading scorer DaVonte Lacy, who remains sidelined with an apparent rib injury, WSU nearly picked up its first Pac-12 win of the season.

Shots finally fall, but so do Cougars

Three-point shooting has been an anchor weighing down the Washington State men’s basketball team throughout the first half of the 2013-14 season. But on Wednesday night it nearly buoyed the Cougars to an upset of No. 15 Colorado. But though WSU’s atypical marksmanship allowed the Cougars to compete with Colorado (14-2, 3-0 Pac-12), it wasn’t enough to carry them to victory as they fell to the Buffaloes in overtime, 71-70, in front of 3,122 fans at the Spokane Arena.

Cougars play Colorado at the Arena

The Pac-12 schedule of the Washington State men’s basketball team may have started, but the Cougars will have to wait to welcome a conference foe to Friel Court. First they will try to find their offense in Spokane today, against No. 15 Colorado. The Cougars (7-7, 0-2 Pac-12) will have to try and earn their first Pac-12 win 80 miles north of Pullman, in Spokane Arena.

Cougs end streak

PULLMAN – “The streak is over, it’s time for a new streak.” After beating Washington, 82-80, on Tuesday, Washington State coach June Daugherty grabbed a microphone to give the eulogy for a 36-game winning streak that she helped build.
