Pac-12 men’s golf tournament begins today at Palouse Ridge

PULLMAN – Washington State can’t match teams boasting some of the best amateur golfers in the world at this week’s Pac-12 tournament. But the Cougars have something on their side more valuable perhaps even than Arizona State’s top-ranked Jon Rahm-Rodriguez: The Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Washington State’s home course, one of the nation’s best according to Golfweek, will serve as the site of the Pac-12 golf tournament, which begins today and concludes Wednesday. The course poses a number of unique challenges that will be old-hat to the Cougars but foreign to the visitors.

PULLMAN – Although spring games are ultimately spiffed-up practices that serve to widen the football program’s ticket-buying base by giving fans a free taste of the game-day experience, the annual scrimmages have been fairly pivotal in Luke Falk’s Washington State career. Last year’s Crimson and Gray Game was the previously unknown walk-on quarterback’s debut performance for Crimson fans and he rose to the occasion, completing 20 of 31 pass attempts for 213 yards and a touchdown.

PULLMAN – Joe Pistorese gave away his leverage with Major League Baseball teams when he decided to return for a senior year of chucking baseballs at Washington State. But he and his coaches believe that by putting in another year of long toss with the Cougars, Pistorese has made himself more valuable to the pros.

PULLMAN – Cole Madison missed the final three games of the 2014-15 football season because of an illness, but the Washington State right tackle recalls that time as one of the offensive line’s finest moments. “After every game, the first thing, they’d call me and ask how I was doing,” Madison explains. “It’s just the little things like that. We look out for each other.”
