Judging by the football players’ attitude Monday afternoon, the cup is always half-full at Eastern Washington. Even as quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. announced that he was moving on to Oregon, his former teammates were sweating it out in the weight room, preparing for spring ball and the 2015 season.

Injury may keep national scoring leader Tyler Harvey out of Eastern’s big game Thursday

Eastern Washington guard Tyler Harvey is still healing from a thigh injury and is questionable for the Eagles’ big men’s basketball game Thursday night against Sacramento State. EWU coach Jim Hayford said Monday afternoon that Harvey, the national scoring leader, will not practice today in contact drills, 10 days after suffering a bruised right quadriceps in a game against Idaho.

Eastern men end long losing streak in Missoula

MISSOULA – The streak is over. On Thursday night, 11 years of futility for Eastern Washington were thrown out of Dahlberg Arena like yesterday’s news. For Venky Jois, the reality sunk in with a few seconds left in the game. Moments later, after the Eagles had secured a 75-69 Big Sky Conference win over Montana, the Eagles forward was more interested in the future than in rehashing the past.

A little familiarity went a long way for Eastern Washington University during 2015 recruiting season. Including six offensive linemen, a home-grown defensive player and the brother of a two-time Eastern All-American, coach Beau Baldwin announced the signing of 21 high school players Wednesday to letters of intent to attend EWU and play for the Eagles.

The Big Sky Conference has many reasons for seeking a permanent site for its postseason basketball tournament. The latest reason is literally stirring up a Hornets’ nest. Sacramento State currently is in first place in the standings and could host the tournament for the first time, but it plays in a gym – the 1,012-seat Hornet’s Nest – that’s unsuitable for March Madness.
