Tyler Harvey rallies EWU past Weber State

Fittingly, New Year’s Day offered the perfect opportunity for the Eastern basketball players to show their resolve. Trailing Weber State by eight points with less than six minutes to play, the Eagles made all the big plays down the stretch to win their Big Sky Conference opener, 84-78, on Thursday afternoon at Reese Court.

Eastern men open Big Sky play against tough Weber State

Here’s an obvious New Year’s resolution for the Eastern Washington basketball team: Beat Weber State. Do that this afternoon at Reese Court and the Eagles can think more seriously about a bigger goal: winning the Big Sky Conference regular-season title for the first time under coach Jim Hayford.

Freshmen stepped up on Eagles’ defensive line

Three months after being thrown in to the fire, Eastern Washington’s young defensive linemen are putting the heat on opposing offenses. And they’re making their coaches look pretty smart in the process: the Eagles are deep into the playoffs partly because the new guys are no longer out of their depth.

Forte’s return boosts Eagles’ offense

The would-he-play-or-not question followed Eastern Washington running back Quincy Forte all week, from practice on Tuesday all the way to pregame warm-ups before Saturday’s FCS playoff game against Montana. Hobbled for more than a month with a sprained ankle, Forte was questionable all week – “a 50-50 deal,” coach Beau Baldwin said as late as Thursday. But after “tweaking a few little things” all week with trainer Amir Owens, Forte was good to go.
