Eastern expects Venky Jois to return this week

Eastern Washington forward Venky Jois is a “possibility” to play Thursday night against Northern Colorado, coach Jim Hayford said Tuesday. Nine minutes into the Eagles’ 92-85 win at Portland State on Thursday, Jois stepped on a PSU player’s foot and injured his right ankle. He missed the rest of that game and sat out Eastern’s 90-77 loss two nights later at Sacramento State.

Trailing Rogers by a dozen at the half, Gonzaga Prep boys basketball coach Matty McIntyre asked his Bullpups to dig a little deeper. To give a little more. The Bullpups already had given him plenty that day: They helped McIntyre say goodbye to his mother, Christy, who died on Jan. 8 and was laid to rest Friday in Post Falls.

Ex-football coach sues Whitworth

Former Whitworth football coach John Tully is suing the university for age discrimination over his dismissal following the 2013 season. In a civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in Spokane County Superior Court, Tully also alleges that he was “subjected to numerous adverse employment actions by Whitworth, including, but not limited to, false statements by Whitworth” in its press release concerning Tully’s termination.
