Bo Levi Mitchell has spent the past two months in Cheney, encouraging brother Cody – now a senior wideout with the Eagles – while in turn getting some tips from the Eagles coaching staff. “This offseason, I achieved what I wanted to: to keep my head in the playbook and head into the season ahead of the crowd,” Mitchell said. While in Cheney, Mitchell had a chance to look over old tapes, then get some pointers from head coach Beau Baldwin and quarterbacks coach Zak Hill.

COEUR D’ALENE – Scoreboard-watching was never easier than on Friday afternoon at Ramsey Park. With the softball teams from Lake City and Coeur d’Alene high schools playing at the same time on adjoining fields in the second round of the State 5A tournament, good-natured rivalry was at its best. Friends and neighbors, dressed in the blue and white of both schools, mingled between fields and craned their necks at the action behind them.

Ferris boys riding strong finish

The state tournament is just the place to finish strongly – something the Ferris boys’ soccer team has turned into a habit lately. Last week the Saxons endured a road trip to Richland and a loser-out game at Albi Stadium, both played in searing heat that tested everyone’s resolve. Ferris lost 2-1 at Richland, then thrashed Walla Walla 4-1 to reach today’s first-round 4A tournament game against Mt. Rainier.

Clayton Paull knew the long ball was coming. Cedar Kelly wasn’t so sure. With the Ferris boys soccer team leading Walla Walla by one goal with 10 minutes to play, Paull sprinted up the middle of the field just as Kelly gained possession on the Saxons’ end and looked to make a short pass.
