Spokane County libraries lets cardholders flip through digital magazine rack

There are a lot of interesting magazines out there, but subscribing to several of them at once is a cost-prohibitive prospect for many. But people living in the Spokane County Library District can now access 95 magazines for free through a recently added online service called Flipster. All people need to do is visit the library district website, scld.org, click on the “digital library” link and enter their library card number to access Flipster.

WVSD’s longtime Deputy Superintendent Doug Matson to retire at end of school year

West Valley School District Deputy Superintendent Doug Matson has announced he plans to retire at the end of the school year, bringing his 31 years career with the district to a close. He joins West Valley Superintendent Gene Sementi, who also recently announced his retirement after 31 years with the district. The school board has already voted to promote assistant superintendent Kyle Rydell to replace Sementi.

Traffic issues on U.S. Highway 195 south of where it intersects with Interstate 90 have been a topic of discussion for years, and about a hundred people turned out Monday night to continue that discussion at a public workshop at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Meadowlane Road.

Assistant secretary, custodian in Spokane Public Schools honored for excellence

Ridgeview Elementary assistant secretary Angela Hayes and Willard Elementary head custodian Dale Floyd were two of four people recently named Distinguished Classified Employees for 2019-20 by Spokane Public Schools. The other recipients were Hannah Alaskar, a paraeducator at Logan Elementary, and Mark Kelly, lead operator of the SPS Print Shop.

Malawi native hopes to build bridges with talk about her culture

Spokane Public Library will continue its series of discussions and events in honor of Black History Month with a presentation on Malawi on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the To Be Continued library branch inside the NorthTown Mall. “Malawi and the Warm Heart of Africa” will be presented by Malawi native Christina Kamkosi. She has lived in the Spokane area for the past 10 years, but grew up in Malawi in southeastern Africa.
