School Board Approves Bus Routes

From Staff

The Lakeland School Board approved bus routes and a new health insurance policy at its meeting Thursday.

The board agreed to apply for state funding to run routes within a mile and a half from Garwood Elementary School for safety reasons.

Areas where students will not have bus service include Upper Spirit Lake, Spirit Lake East, Reservoir Road, Cape Horn Road, Twete Road, Riffle Road and Nelson Loop Road.

The district will reimburse families in those areas for transportation costs at a rate of 26 cents per mile for one round trip per day, plus $10 per month per family.

The board also agreed to change the district policy on medical and dental insurance to include support staff, a group that was previously excluded. The changes were designed to comply with a new state law that requires school districts to give non-teachers the same health coverage as teachers.
