Simpson Does It All As Pilots Nip WSU
Jeff Simpson hit a home run and two singles and was credited with a save for his relief pitching as Portland edged Washington State 11-10 in a Pacific-10 North Conference baseball game Sunday in Pullman.
Simpson started the game playing second base and ended up pitching the final inning for the Pilots (2-4, 12-13).
Simpson’s three-run homer in the eighth inning narrowed Washington State’s lead to 9-7. WSU answered with a run in its half of the eighth, but the Pilots came back with four in the final inning to win.
The Cougars (4-2, 12-16) jumped to a 4-1 lead after two innings and outhit Portland 16-12.

Pat Meiwes hit a home run and two singles to lead the visiting Beavers over the Bulldogs in a Pac-10 North game.
The Beavers (4-2, 14-10-1) took a 5-2 lead after four innings and scored three more runs to preserve the victory. GU (2-4, 14-13) scored twice in the fifth and twice in the eighth.

Matt Forhn pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out 11, as the Warriors beat the Pirates in a non-conference baseball game at Whitworth.
Scott Worsham had a two-run homer for Whitworth. Larry Turner and Don O’Neal each added two hits.

The WSU women beat Washington for the first time in a dual match in Pullman. WSU pulled out a 5-4 upset. UW had won the previous 16.
