Commission Wants New Juvenile Jail
The Bonneville County Commission wants the state to build a $1.3 million juvenile jail in the Idaho Falls area.
Commissioner Roger Christensen said Wednesday that the county would donate land for the jail, which is expected to hold about 18 young offenders.
He said he would be looking for ways to run the facility inexpensively.
Eastern Idaho counties now rent space at the state Youth Services Center in St. Anthony to house juvenile delinquents. That space is no longer expected to be available within 18 months, Commissioner Cliff Long said.
