United We Stand Prepared In Idaho
Ross Perot is hoping to rile up some Texas-size debates next weekend with a politico-packed conference, snapping Idaho’s independent voters out of their lull.
The Texas billionaire and former presidential candidate will kick off on Friday the first national conference of United We Stand America. It is a chance for Perot to talk issues again and charge up the people who tried to elect him in 1992.
“I still think there’s a lot of skepticism for what’s going on at Capitol Hill,” said Eagle resident Theresa Shackelford, a UWSA member who is considering going to the Dallas conference.
Idaho UWSA members are preparing to tackle campaign finance reform in the Legislature next year. It’s the one issue that can keep the group fired up at a time when politics is on summer vacation.
Without a high-profile election to rally around, UWSA members are just holding steady, waiting to find presidential candidates who suit their tastes.
“So far, nobody in the running lights our fire,” UWSA Idaho Executive Director Platt Thompson said. “We’re still focused on issues, like campaign finance reform.”
