Hillary Prugh Challenges In Colorado; Stumph Wins
Hillary Prugh of Spokane is in the title hunt after the first round of the IZZO Colorado American Junior Golf Association tournament.
Prugh shot a 10-over-par 82 (40-42) on the 5,820-yard Legacy Ridge course in Westminster, Colo. She’s in a tie for sixth, five shots behind leader Rheba Mabie of Boulder Junction, Wis.
In the boys 15-18 division, Ben Holt of Spokane was 13 over with an 85 (44-41) and trails leader Andy Doeden of Fargo, N.D., by 16 shots.
Royal Stumph of Spokane is the only one of five Inland Empire golfers to move into the second round of match play in the 41st Pacific Northwest Golf Association Junior Boys Amateur Tournament in Billings, Mont.
Stumph beat Doug McClure of Clarkston, 5 and 3. Defending champion Michael Hastings of Spokane lost 4 and 2 to Anthony Arvidson of Portland; Andy Hastings, Michael’s brother, lost on the 19th hole to Dusty Brett of Tacoma; and Tim Ressa of Pullman was a 19th-hole victim, losing to Mike Haack of Bellevue, Wash.
Todd Pence of Cheney shot 74-73-147, 3 over par, to claim the fourth of five spots available in the U.S. Amateur Aug. 22-27 in Newport, R.I., during sectional qualifying in Lacey, Wash.
Other qualifiers were medalist Justin Hetsler of Tacoma (72-73-145), Bob Conrad, Medina, Wash., and Clint Jensen, Richland, 146s; and Scott Johnson, Kennewick, 148.
Heather Graff of Kennewick shot a 79-74-153 to qualify for match play in the 95th U.S. Women’s Amateur in Brookline, Mass.

Prairie of Post Falls finished fourth in the Idaho AA American Legion tournament in Lewiston after losing 12-4 to Pocatello on Tuesday night. Prairie had a 32-28 record.
