Boise Man Considers Run Against Craig
A Boise businessman and environmentalist plans to be in Coeur d’Alene on Friday to explore a campaign against U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho.
Walter C. Minnick, 52, is scheduled to speak to the Kootenai County Democratic Club at the Iron Horse Restaurant at noon.
He is traveling the state gauging support for a run against Craig.
His background includes a stint as a staff assistant in the Nixon White House, serving in the U.S. Army and working as an attorney for a short time. In 1974, he started working for Trus Joist Corp., now TJ International, rising through the ranks to become president.
Minnick is on the boards of Albertson College of Idaho, Eljer Industries and MacMillan Blodel Limited and is on the governing board of the Wilderness Society. He is a longtime member of the Idaho Conservation League and the Idaho Nature Conservancy.
In 1991, Minnick was named Idaho State University businessman of the year. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Whitman College in Walla Walla and an MBA and a law degree from Harvard.
