Rough Landing Scares Passengers In Boise

From Staff And Wire Reports

Colette Seubert, her 3-month-old son and 122 other passengers received quite a bump when their Delta Air Lines plane landed roughly at the Boise Airport.

Federal investigators are looking into the Thursday night incident in which the left wing tip of the Boeing 727 scraped the ground as it landed.

“It put quite a jolt in me,” said Seubert, who was holding her son, Nicholas. “He was crying.”

No one was injured on flight 2019, which was completing the last leg of its Phoenix to Salt Lake City to Boise run.

Seubert, 29, of Caldwell, said the passengers thought they were flying well above the clouds just before the incident. Then they saw fog and within 20 seconds, the plane hit the ground and bounced.

The aircraft twisted sideways after the jolt, straightened out and completed the landing. Passengers could see a piece of metal dangling several feet from the end of the wing, Seubert said.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Greg Nesemeier said Delta reported the flight crew was not aware of the damage until the following crew did a walk-around inspection.
