Bloomingdale’s Enters California

From Staff And Wire Reports

Bloomingdale’s, one of the nation’s most high-profile and trendy department stores, is making its first move into California.

Bloomie’s owner, Federated Department Stores Inc., which also owns The Bon Marche, said Wednesday it will convert four former Broadway stores in California to Bloomingdale’s by fall 1996.

The stores are in Century City, Sherman Oaks, Newport Beach and Stanford. The Newport Beach store previously was slated to become part of the Macy’s chain that is also owned by Federated.

Federated also said seven other Broadway stores will be converted to Macy’s, beginning in February. They are in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, Concord, Hayward, La Mesa, Newpark and Torrance.
