Moose Permits Increase
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission has increased the number of permits for hunting moose, while maintaining the bighorn sheep and mountain goat permits at last year’s levels.
Non-residents are not eligible for Idaho moose permits.
The commission recently approved the sale of 793 moose permits statewide, up from 669 last year. The number of Panhandle moose permits will increase from 83 to 100.
Moose populations can handle the increase even though at least 21 moose died in the Panhandle last year from causes other than hunting.
At least 11 were killed illegally by poachers, five by automobiles and one by a train. Causes of four deaths are unknown. One moose was considered a wounding loss from a legal hunter, Fish and Game officials said.
