Whitworth Makes Quick Work Of Linfield

College women

The only significant opponent the Whitworth Pirates women’s basketball team had to overcome Saturday was complacency. And the Pirates smashed it along with the Linfield Wildcats, 88-49, at the Whitworth Fieldhouse. Whitworth (7-2 NCIC, 13-11) never trailed. The Pirates held a 21-4 lead with 9:36 left in the first half and put it on cruise control from there.

Linfield (3-5, 7-13) didn’t get its first basket until 13:40 remained in the first half.

After moving into a tie for first place in an emotional game with Willamette on Friday night, the Pirates showed no signs of a happy hangover against Linfield.

“The fact that we didn’t have time to really enjoy the win (against Willamette) worked to our advantage,” Pirates head coach Helen Higgs said. “We know that we’ve got to keep pace with Willamette.”
