Falcons Hold Off Ach For Top Seed

The league champions survived, though just barely, as the seedings were set for next week’s Northeast B district basketball tournament.

The Sprague Harrington boys survived a third-quarter charge from Almira/Coulee-Hartline to take the top seed and Davenport earned the third seed by beating Wilbur-Creston.

It was a double Davenport win over W-C but in the girls case it was for the top two seeds. ACH took the third seed by edging Reardan.

The district tournament starts Monday at SFCC.

Boys

Sprague-Harr. 55, ACH 54

The third-ranked Falcons (23-0) survived a 23-point third quarter by the ninth-ranked Warriors (19-4) and used Ryan Floyd’s 21 points to hold on.

Floyd scored 12 of his points in the second quarter.

Tom Turnbough scored 18 points as the Gorillas (13-12) beat the Wildcats (13-11).

The score was tied at 39 at the end of the third, but Davenport scored 26 points in the fourth.

Jennifer Stinson scored nine of her 31 points in the fourth quarter as the No. 2 Gorillas (22-1) outscored the No. 7 Wildcats 19-13.

The Gorillas fell behind by five after one quarter, but rallied to tie the game by halftime. It was a twopoint game entering the fourth quarter.

Jessica Martin’s 30 points kept the Wildcats (19-3) close.
