Free Throws Scuttle Bucs By One Point

Marcella Weissbeck made two free throws with no time left on the clock Tuesday as Whitman (2-0, 7-5) defeated Whitworth 53-52 in a Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges women’s basketball game at Walla Walla.

Jennifer Tissue of Whitworth (1-1, 6-10) missed the front end of a one-and-one with 7 seconds left. Weissbeck rebounded the miss, drove the length of the court, and was fouled while shooting a layup.

Annette Sweeney scored 13, and Sherri Northington had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Whitworth. The victorious Missionaries shot 18 of 22 from the line.
