Presta Wins As Nic Pins Yakima
Bob Presta defeated the nation’s top-rated junior college 142-pounder Tuesday to lead North Idaho College’s 37-12 dual wrestling win at Yakima Valley Community College.
Presta defeated Brent Rotondo 5-1 as the Cardinals, ranked second in the nation, improved to 13-2 in duals.
NIC’s Seth Kernodle (167) defeated Sam Ortega 4-2. Ortega, rated ahead of Kernodle, advanced to regionals last year.
Kirk Hartzell (118), Rick Moreno (150) and Travis Hughes (190) had pins for NIC.
Prep wrestling: A pair of lastsecond comeback wins led Colville (9-4) to a 42-27 non-league win over visiting Coeur d’Alene.
Colville’s Richy DeSpain (135) trailed Paul Weseman 6-2, but had a late reversal and near fall to win 8-6.
Ben Miller (168) of the Indians allowed an escape to Dusty Getten with 6 seconds left, but immediately scored a takedown for an 11-9 win.
Troy Hughes (108) and Josh Curren (275) had the Vikings’ pins.
Youth football: A meeting for adults interested in participating in the reorganization of the Coeur d’Alene Junior Tackle Program will be held tonight at The Spokesman-Review building, 608 Northwest Blvd.
The meeting begins at 7 in the conference room on the first floor. Lake City High School head football coach Van Troxel is heading up development of the program for seventh and eighth graders.

8-9-year-olds - Elan Bills, Hayden Meadows Elementary (boy); Erin Johnson, Ramsey Elementary (girl). 10-11 - Bryan Klingaman, Betty Kiefer Elementary (boy); Roslyn Folk, Ramsey Elementary (girl). 12-13 - Ryan Hansen, John Brown Elementary (boy); Kellie Stern, Canfield Middle School (girl).
The winners advance to the district contest Jan. 28 in Kellogg. Those winners will advance to the state competition in Twin Falls.
