‘Super’ Wish Comes True
The MakeA-Wish Foundation has presented a Shelley High School student with a terminal muscle disease with tickets to see his favorite team - the San Francisco 49ers - in Super Bowl XXIX on Sunday.
Brad Mathews, 17, already has outlived his prognosis.
Make-A-Wish got the law firm that represents the National Football League to donate the tickets for Brad, his parents, cousin and friend Shane Thompson.
His other expenses for the trip to Miami will be covered by $2,541 in donations from students, local residents and business, the junior high school and the Bonneville High School Hispanic Awareness Leadership Organization.
Brad also received a 49ers jersey autographed by his favorite player, quarterback Steve Young. The jersey was obtained by Shelley brothers Doug and Holland Dredge, who know a 49ers assistant coach.
“I never thought I’d get the opportunity to go to a football game or the Super Bowl,” Brad said. “It’s kind of hard to put in words, I guess. It’s different to see a whole lot of people working together like that.”
Darwin Mathews, Brad’s father, thanked students at a school rally Wednesday for supporting his son.
