Indians Lose Sixth Straight
The Spokane Indians discovered how to slow down Jose Amado on Wednesday.
Slow down, however, didn’t mean stop. Amado hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning as Everett defeated Spokane 4-3 to sweep the three-game Northwest League series. Amado has eight homers this year.
Amado, 5 of 6 during the first two games of the series, went just 1 for 4 but still decided a contest that gave the AquaSox (8-12) their fourth consecutive win. Reeling Spokane (6-14) has dropped six straight.
Spokane led 2-0 in the third when shortstop Mark Melito hit a two-run homer, his first this season, off starter Chad Soden (2-2).
Indians starter Stephen Prihoda (0-1) allowed the tying runs in the fourth. Randy Vickers had an RBI groundout and Carl Thompson an RBI double.
Shane Thomasson’s error for the AquaSox in the fifth put Patrick Hallmark aboard. Hallmark later scored on a passed ball.
Everett’s Chad Sheffer walked in the fifth and scored on Amado’s homer. Against Spokane, Amado is 11 of 22, with three doubles, one triple, two homers and seven RBIs.
Spokane threatened in the ninth against Eric Clifford, but Tyrone Frazier, who had a one-out single, was thrown out trying to steal. Clifford earned his third save.
Spokane reliever Brent Kaysner pitched 3 innings of no-hit ball.
The Indians begin a three-game homestand with Bellingham tonight at 7:05. Spokane will start Modesto Villarreal (2-1).
