Indurain Takes Time Trial
Miguel Indurain, chasing a record fifth straight Tour de France victory, took the yellow jersey by winning a tough individual time trial and heading into the mountains over 2 minutes ahead of his main rivals.
Indurain finished the 33.5-mile time trial in 1 hour, 4.16 seconds, only 12 seconds ahead of a surprisingly strong Dane Bjarne Riis.
Belgian Johan Bruyneel, who had taken the yellow jersey on Saturday, finished seventh in the time trial, almost three minutes behind Indurain.
