Pitino Accused In Suit

JoAnn Hauser, a former trainer for the Kentucky basketball team, filed a sex discrimination suit, alleging coach Rick Pitino does not want any more women involved in the men’s basketball program.

In a complaint filed in Fayette Circuit Court, Hauser named Pitino, athletics director C.M. Newton, UK Athletics Association and the university as defendants. Hauser is seeking to recover actual damages, legal costs and punitive damages.

Playing before a vocal home crowd estimated at 20,000 in Athens, Greece beat the United States 98-78 in basketball to clinch a semifinal berth in the Junior World Championship.

Mihalis Kakiouzis led Greece (5-0 overall, 2-0 quarterfinals) with 29 points. Georgia Tech recruit Stephon Marbury led the U.S. (3-2, 1-1) with 23 points.

The U.S. faces Croatia (4-1, 1-1) in its final quarterfinal game today, with the winner advancing to Friday’s semifinals.
