Tennis Champs Honored
NCAA champions Keri Phebus of Newport Beach, Calif., and Sargis Sargsian of Armenia have been named 1995 Tennis Magazine-Rolex College Players of the Year.
Phebus, a junior at UCLA, is only the second woman to capture singles and doubles championships the same year.
Sargsian, an Arizona State senior, won three of the four college Grand Slam tournaments, gaining the singles title and becoming the first male to win four Grand Slam titles in his collegiate career.
The Newsweek Champions Cup for men and the Evert Cup for women, played in consecutive weeks in the past, will be played simultaneously starting next year at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells, Calif.
