Severed Line Affects Phones
Nearly 3,000 homes and businesses north of Spokane were left without telephone service Friday morning after Washington Water Power crews severed a cable line.
The crews were digging near Denison-Chattaroy Road south of Deer Park when they hit the line about 10 a.m.
About 2,500 US West customers in Loon Lake and Springdale were left without service.
Another 500 customers with Pacific Telecom Inc. in Valley and Chewelah also had dead telephone lines.
Affected lines included all emergency services and pay phones, said US West spokesman Harry Grandstrom.
US West repair crews had the lines up by 3:30 p.m.
