Suit Planned On Dams

Associated Press

Echoing statements he made last year, Gov. Marc Racicot says he will sue the federal government over its management of the Libby and Hungry Horse dams.

He contends the government has violated the Endangered Species Act because the federal plan to restore Northwest salmon would take Montana water to the detriment of the state’s native bull trout and westslope cutthroat.

Last July, Racicot threatened to sue federal dam operators. They subsequently agreed to delay releases from Hungry Horse Dam, and no lawsuit was filed.
