Inmate Charged After Spitting Blood
A Kootenai County Jail inmate was charged with two counts of battery after he spit blood at a jailer and another inmate.
Adam S. Hill, 23, of Coeur d’Alene was fighting with inmate Randy Cox at about 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff’s report.
Three jail officials tried to break up the fight, but Hill continued to struggle with the officers, according to the report.
Hill, who had been punched in the mouth during the fight with Cox, spit a mouthful of blood and saliva at the other inmate.
The spit hit Cox in the face and chest and also hit Deputy Al Hetzler, according to the report. Hill continued to fight with the deputies who then sprayed the inmate with a pepper-like spray.
As jail deputies carried Hill to a cell, he again spit blood on Hetzler, according to the report.
Jail Sgt. Glenda Anderson said spitting on someone is considered a battery because it can be a “biomedical hazard.”
An act of battery directed at a jail deputy is a felony offense.
