Broken Main Floods City’s Visitor’s Center
Water from a broken main flooded the Wallace Visitor’s Center last night, reaching depths of three to four feet in parts of the building before a security guard noticed water seeping under the doors.
“So far we’re unable to estimate the damage,” said Linda Brunette, who serves on the Wallace Chamber’s Board of Directors.
The new building, which houses the Wallace Chamber of Commerce, office opened last summer.
Brunette said damage to Chamber of Commerce items alone was probably in the neighborhood of $10,000. She estimated that repairs could take as long as three weeks.
The cause of the broken main was unknown Wednesday.
“It’s not a pretty sight,” said street overseer Bill Hood, who was called to help handle the crisis shortly after 12:30.
Hood, local policemen, and other volunteers worked all night to clean up the mess.
