Excursion Ends With Rape Charge Boating Companion, 22, Says Beating Began After She Accidentally Took Keys

Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old man with rape and crimes against nature Monday after police say he spent more than an hour sexually assaulting and beating a woman.

Vincent Aschinger of Post Falls also was charged with aggravated assault and is being held at the Kootenai County Jail.

Doctors at Kootenai Medical Center treated the 22-year-old woman for injuries to her face and head, among other wounds.

The woman told police that she and Aschinger had been boating together on Saturday.

Aschinger became angry at her early Sunday because she accidentally left the boating excursion with his keys, according to a Post Falls Police report.

The woman told police that he started slapping and punching her in the face and then tried to force her head into the toilet about 3:30 a.m.

According to the police report, Aschinger raped the woman and then pulled out a rifle.

Aschinger told the woman, “Now we’re going to play games with the gun,” said police Detective Dick Halligan.

He then pointed the gun at the woman and started pulling the rifle’s trigger, which merely clicked, Halligan said.

Aschinger then tied the woman’s hands with a curling iron cord and continued to beat her, according to a police report. When he untied her she fled his house dressed only in a ripped camisole.

She had to run to three different houses before someone would answer the door, according to the police report.

Six Post Falls officers and two Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Aschinger’s Post Falls home Sunday afternoon.

It took them more than half an hour to talk Aschinger out of the house, according to the police report.

Aschinger is a training specialist with the Army active reserve, according to the Post Falls Police report.
