Cougars Reunited: Erickson, Rosenbach Might Hook Up Again
Seattle has offered free-agent Timm Rosenbach, who played under new coach Dennis Erickson at Washington State, a contract for a chance to become a reserve quarterback. He is expected to battle Stan Gelbaugh to become the team’s No. 3 quarterback.
Rosenbach played for Hamilton in the Canadian Football League last season, but was released late in the season. He formerly played with the Arizona Cardinals and shocked the NFL when he quit football before the 1993 season because he said he was tired of the game’s violence and injuries.
He walked away from the final season of a five-year contract for $1 million.
Also, the Seahawks are in the market for a freeagent tight end because they don’t expect tight end Ferrell Edmunds to be able to play again. His 1994 season ended after seven games because of an ailing back.
The Seahawks have released guard Mitch Frerotte, who missed the last two seasons because of a neck injury.
In other NFL moves:
Mel Gray, the NFL’s all-time kickoff return leader, is leaving the Detroit Lions for the Houston Oilers, having agreed to a two-year, $2.4 million deal.
Running back Harvey Williams, whose 983 yards rushing last season was the most by a Los Angeles Raider since 1985, has signed a new contract.
Negotiations aimed at a deal to have former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms join the Cleveland Browns could take several more days.
Browns owner Art Modell said negotiations would continue next week but declined to say whether he thought a deal could be reached.
The New England Patriots have reached an agreement with Miami Dolphins center Jeff Dellenbach.
Dellenbach started every game for the Dolphins in 1994, anchoring an offensive line that allowed only 17 sacks all season.
