Cheney Girls Debut At State In The Late Show
Class AA basketball fans who want to see the only undefeated team in the state will have to stay up late to do it.
Cheney (23-0) plays defending champion Lakeside of Seattle (15-12) in Wednesday night’s 9:30 opening-round game of the girls State AA basketball tournament at the Tacoma Dome.
However, the Frontier League champion Blackhawks face a Lakeside team that had one of the state’s best players, Takiya Jackson, transfer to Franklin this year. Jackson, who has signed to play at UCLA, and Franklin’s Quakers (18-5) are a potential semifinal opponent.
Colville (13-10), the Frontier boys champion, opens with Capital of Olympia (16-7) at 5 p.m.
The Indians are in the same bracket with Metro League powerhouses O’Dea (24-1) and Garfield (22-3) but those two would meet in a quarterfinal game before a possible semifinal meeting with Colville.
The last state tournament appearance for Colville was in 1973.
