Iron Mike’s Day Coming

Compiled From Wire Services

Mike Tyson will be released from prison to an avalanche of fight offers and a mountain of advice.

“Just give the kid a chance,” said promoter Butch Lewis, who has visited Tyson at the Indiana Youth Center about a dozen times in the past 18 months. “I’ve seen him. He’s matured. He wants to be accepted. He wants to be loved. He wants to prepare himself for life after boxing.”

Tyson will be released Saturday from the prison where he was incarcerated March 26, 1992, after being convicted of rape.

Almost every heavyweight is interested in cashing in as a tuneup or championship opponent for Tyson.

Promoter Bob Arum would like to see Tyson go straight into a fight against IBF champion George Foreman. Manager Rock Newman thinks Tyson should make his first fight against Riddick Bowe.
