Stars & Stripes Sinking

Compiled From Wire Services

Sailed by America3’s previously allwomen’s team, Mighty Mary rallied twice on the final three legs to beat Young America and tie Stars & Stripes for second place in the America’s Cup semifinals.

While Mighty Mary benefited from Young America’s broken spinnaker pole to take a 38-second win, Dennis Conner’s crew was racing to replace Stars & Stripes’ damaged keel in time for today’s scheduled race against Mighty Mary.

The keel damage caused Stars & Stripes to take on water and drop out of Sunday’s race with Young America.
