Appearances may be deceiving, but media appearances sure can be effective.

Take that ex-recluse Princess Diana, who has appeared various places, sans bodyguards, dressed and/or coiffed tres fashionably.

“She’s just fighting (in) her corner and doing it well, with those tanned, big, muscled arms in sleeveless dresses, the slicked-back hair,” says Jane Proctor, editor of the British magazine Tatler. “She’s saying, ‘I’m a woman in control, I’m Schwarzenegger, I’m a sexual presence.”’
