Idaho Women Open Door For Kansas Prep Star Woolf
The Idaho women’s basketball team announced Thursday that it has signed point guard Susan Woolf, the Kansas 4A player of the year as a junior last season, and forward Suzanne Goss to letters of intent.
Woolf, a 5-foot-6 point guard at Andover High just outside of Wichita, averaged a state-leading 39.2 points per game. She has already made a state-record 208 3-point shots in her career.
Woolf was named honorable mention all-America by USA Today and Street & Smith Magazine.
“Susan Woolf is one of the best high school players in the nation,” said UI coach Julie Holt. “I think signing Susan, in terms of recruiting, gives us instant credibility.”
As a freshman, Woolf scored 51 points against Augusta and she had 49 against Augusta last year.
The 5-foot-11 Goss averaged nine points per game as a junior at Boise High.
“She’s a great athlete,” Holt said. “She’s physical, strong, quick, can run and jump.”
Goss’s father, David, was a Vandals basketball player (1965-67), her uncle, Alan Head, played football and baseball (1970-74) and another uncle, Bill Goss, was on the UI golf team (1961-64). Her older brother, Geoff, played basketball for Gonzaga University (1990-94).
Golf
Manito Golf and Country Club pro Steve Prugh and his assistant, Michael Rorholm, came away with a three-stroke victory in the Washington State Pro-Assistant Golf Championship at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent.
Prugh and Rorholm followed their firstround 64 with a 68 and a 36-hole total of 132. They earned $1,600.
Dan Smith and Randy Fossum of Lynnwood Golf Club finished second with a 135, two shots ahead of Canterwood Golf and Country Club’s Doug Gullikson and Todd Erwin.
Three other Spokane teams competed, led by Les Blakley and Matt Bunn of Spokane Country Club with 70-72-142. Scott Shagool and Chris Johnson of Painted Hills Golf Club shot 71-72-143. Bob Scott and Kitt DeAndre of Liberty Lake Golf Club finished with 72-72-144.
Soccer
Kenny Krestian broke a 1-1 tie on a feed from Adrian Reyes to give Community Colleges of Spokane a 2-1 road victory over Edmonds CC in an NWAACC North Division game.
After a scoreless second half, CCS left the field with a 9-4-4 record. The Sasquatch can clinch the home-field advantage for the playoffs with another victory today at Everett in the regular-season finale, but a loss would jeopardize their playoff chances.
