Backup quarterback Rich Walton helped ignite a slow-starting offense with a long touchdown pass and the defense was stifling as No. 9 Texas defeated Baylor 21-13 Thursday night in Austin, Texas.

With the victory, Texas (9-1-1, 6-0 Southwest Conference) will play Texas A&M next week with the chance to win the league title outright for the first time since 1990 and gain a berth in either the Orange or Sugar bowls.

Baylor (7-4, 5-2), which dominated the Longhorns in time of possession in the first half but couldn’t collect any points, likely saw its bowl hopes disappear.
