Counties To Receive $7 Million
Idaho counties will soon receive more than $7 million from the federal government in compensation for tax-exempt public land located within their boundaries.
Checks totaling $7,055,399 have been sent to 44 Idaho counties that contain approximately 32 million acres of public land in accordance with the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Act of 1976. Idaho counties are among the approximately 1,950 local government units that will receive $99.3 million in payments this year.
Idaho’s share of Payments in Lieu of Taxes is the sixth largest in the nation, following New Mexico, California, Utah, Arizona and Montana. The biggest payments will go to Elmore County with $708,149, Cassia County with $676,286 and Twin Falls County with $596,363.
Counties receive payments annually for tax-exempt public lands administered by government agencies.
