Forest Service Builds Bridge Over Creek

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Forest Service, using a grant from the state of Idaho, has installed a foot bridge over Yellow Jacket Creek, a Salmon River tributary, in an effort to keep people and livestock from walking through the stream.

The Idaho Parks and Recreation grant will enhance recreation opportunities for forest users, particularly those who wish to access the multiple use trail along Yellow Jacket Creek.

“The bridge will not only protect the stream and salmon habitat, but it will extend the season for trail use,” said Tom Hass, Cascade District engineer.

This area along the South Fork Salmon River sees fairly heavy use throughout the summer, Hass said.

The Yellow Jacket Bridge is one of several projects the Cascade District has been able to complete in partnership with the state. Others include paving at the Anderson Creek snow lot that provides parking access for snowmobilers, the Campbell Creek boat launch and recreation site improvement, and brush clearing along snowmobile trails. , DataTimes
