From Staff And Wire Reports

Small colleges

For the second week in a row, the Whitworth Pirates had two fumbles and two interceptions.

The game’s outcome was also similar.

The Pirates fell 36-7 to Western Washington in a Columbia Football Association non-league game on Saturday in Bellingham.

Western, ranked No. 4 in NAIA Division II, improved its record to 3-0, while Whitworth, which last week lost 27-10 to Central Washington, fell to 1-2.

Western capitalized on the Pirates’ turnovers - all four occurring in the first half - and used a 26-point second quarter to put the game away.

In the second quarter, Western running back Jon Brunaugh scored the Vikings’ first two touchdowns, both on 2-yard carries. Brunaugh’s backup, John Frazier, scored the third touchdown on a 61-yard run, and tight end Ryan Lahmann caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Jason Stiles just before halftime.

As for Whitworth, the Pirates’ offense was stymied for the second straight week, gaining just 162 yards of total offense.

Whitworth freshman quarterback Josh Parbon completed 7 of 12 passes for 102 yards for one touchdown but had two interceptions. On the ground, Whitworth carried 40 times for just 60 yards.
