Johnny Miller Cataldo

Memorial service for Johnny Miller, 81, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church of Pinehurst, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who was a lifetime resident of the Silver Valley, died Friday at home from an extended illness.

He was born in Cataldo and raised at the Old Mission Church, where his parents were farmers and caretakers.

He married Beryl Whiteman in 1937 and they lived in Cataldo. During the Great Depression, he worked at the Eagle and Copper Mountain lookouts and later worked as a ship welder in Seattle during World War II.

He was a lumberjack most of his life and cooked for logging crews as a teenager. He also worked in the timber industry as a crosscut sawyer, truck driver, jammer puncher and drove logs on the Clearwater River.

He was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Pinehurst.

Survivors include his wife ; daughter, Nancy Erickson of Spirit Lake; sons, Monte of Mexico, and Rod of Cataldo; sister, Henrietta Campion of Houston, and Kay Proctor of Olympia; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Minnie Campbell Spokane

Service for Minnie M. Campbell, 94, was held Monday at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Campbell, a former Kellogg resident, died Thursday at home.

She was born in Madison Lake, Minn., and had lived in Spokane for 46 years.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Kellogg from 1926 to 1949, when she moved to Spokane.

Her husband, Bert Campbell, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Campbell of Post Falls; one sister, Elizabeth Huffman of Spokane; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elvira Bresnahan Spokane

Service for Elvira Viola Bresnahan, 74, was held Monday in Sandpoint. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park of Sandpoint.

Mrs. Bresnahan, who was born in Nebraska, died Friday in Spokane.

She moved to Clark Fork, Idaho, in 1926, where she later graduated from high school. She married Francis Bresnahan in 1938.

They moved to Sandpoint in 1956 and then to Spokane in 1967.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Sandpoint and the Eagles Auxiliary of Spokane. She also loved bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Maxwell of Spokane; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Sandpoint.

Leona Johnson Coeur d’Alene

Service for Leona G. Johnson, 66, will be today at 10 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Coffelt’s Funeral Service of Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Sandpoint, died Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.

She attended Bonner County schools and graduated from Sandpoint High School. Her first husband, Donald Beatty, preceded her in death.

She later moved to Coeur d’Alene and was active in the Tree Inventory and senior citizen organizations. She married LeRoy Johnson in 1972.

She enjoyed traveling, ice skating, gardening, bridge and spending weekends on the Moyie River. She was also an avid bowler and golfer.

Survivors include her husband, at home; children, Rex Beatty of San Diego, Mark Beatty of Bellevue, Wash., Lynn Beatty of Redmond, Ore., and Linda Larson of Sandpoint; brother, James Gravelle of Bonners Ferry; sister, Karen Griggs of Sandpoint; and other immediate family, Steve Johnson of Denver, Mark Johnson of Boise and Chris Swanson of Spokane; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the University of Idaho.

Frances Stockdale Sandpoint

Service for Frances June Stockdale, 74, was held Monday in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Stockdale, who was instrumental in establishing the Washington Elementary School Hot Lunch Program in Sandpoint, died Thursday.

She was born in Arnett, Okla., and grew up in Grand Junction, Colo. She moved to Sandpoint in 1940.

She married Dick Stockdale in 1948 and later cooked for area restaurants, including the Sandpoint Cafe, the Pastime and the Edgewater, retiring in 1975.

She worked at helping people deal with alcoholism and enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and her roses.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Church of Aloha, Ore., and a daughter, Ethel Carter of Sandpoint; five brothers, Irving of Cataldo, Idaho, Cecil of Pinehurst, Idaho, Earl of Deer Park, Wash., and Delman and Jack, both of Sandpoint; sisters, Leona of Osborn, and Claudine of Kingston; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Perry Heaton Hay, Wash.

Service for Perry A. Heaton, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse, Wash. Burial will be at LaCrosse Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Heaton, who was born near Colton, Wash., died Friday at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center.

He graduated from Johnson (Wash.) High School.

He worked in construction before he and his wife, Marie, moved to the family ranch near Hay, in 1946. His wife died in 1957. He continued to live on the ranch.

He was a member of the LaCrosse Grain Growers and the Colfax Elks.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Heaton of Colton, Wash., Jack Heaton of Bellevue, Wash., and Blake Heaton of Colfax; three daughters, Jill Pierson of Hay, Claudia Yarbrough of Coeur d’Alene, and Lisa Beckley of Benge, Wash.; one sister, Gladys Reynolds of Pullman; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
