Naomi York Coeur d’Alene

At her request, no services will be held for Naomi H. York, 84. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. York, who was born in Vernon, Texas, died Wednesday at Pinewood Care Center in Coeur d’Alene.

She was raised in Vernon and graduated from high school there. She later attended college in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She married Clarence York in 1938 and settled in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mrs. York worked for many years in Fort Worth as a waitress until moving to Sunset, Texas, in the 1960s.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992 to be near her sister-in-law.

She loved gardening and reading and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries.

Survivors include her sister, Ida Lee Rice of Wichita Falls; stepson, Clarence York of Texas; and numerous cousins.

Thomas Nortz Ford, Wash.

Service for Thomas Edwin Nortz, 51, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springdale (Wash.) Community Church. Burial will be at Tum Tum Cemetery. Potluck reception will be held following the service. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nortz, who was born in San Francisco, died Monday.

He was a driver/mover for Allied Van Lines.

He was a member of the Camas Valley Grange and was a volunteer firefighter in Ford for 19 years. He was the assistant football coach at Springdale High School and was a Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Nortz was honored by Gov. Booth Gardner as a volunteer community supporter. He was well known for portraying Santa Claus around the Springdale, Ford, and Wellpinit communities.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Patricia Nortz; two daughters, Tamra O’Malley and Teresa Troxell; two sons, Timothy and Thomas Nortz Jr.; five brothers, Ben Titus and Edwin, Mike, Albert and Gerald Cates; two sisters, Sue Powell and Edwina Hargrave; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions to the Springdale Community Church.

Albert Roberts Coeur d’Alene

Service for Albert J. Roberts, 87, will be Saturday at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hayden Lake. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roberts, who was born in Helena, died Saturday at home.

He grew up and was educated in Helena and went on to attend the University of Montana. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduating in 1931.

He married Claire George in California in 1933 and they settled in Montana. He later moved to Whittier, Calif., where he was a special agent for the FBI. After retiring, he worked as a bank auditor in California for 10 years.

Mr. Roberts and his family spent summers in Coeur d’Alene and the winters in California.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading and was a member of the Society of Retired FBI Agents.

His wife died in 1992.

Survivors include sons, A. James Roberts III of Park City, Utah, and George Roberts of Coeur d’Alene; one daughter, Patricia Sands of San Pedro, Calif.; one brother, Philip Roberts of Tempe, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth Henderson Deer Park

Funeral Mass for Ruth L. Henderson, 92, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Holy Redeemer (Kelly) Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Farmington, Wash., Mrs. Henderson died Monday.

She graduated from North Central High School and operated Barrow Beach Resort on Deer Lake for many years with her husband, John Henderson.

Her husband died in 1974.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Deer Park and Women of the Moose in Loon Lake, Wash.

She is survived by one son, Jack Henderson of Otis Orchards; one daughter, Margaret Oliver of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren.

Myrtle Woody Newhall, Calif.

Service for Myrtle Woody, a former Spokane resident, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Woody, 89, died Saturday.

She was born in Spokane.

She was a homemaker and lived in Spokane until she moved to California in 1988.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Woody is survived by one son, John Woody of Acton, Calif.; six grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

Alfred Norbeck Lacey, Wash.

Visitation for Alfred Allan “Al” Norbeck, a former Spokane resident, will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lacey.

Mr. Norbeck, 82, died Tuesday.

He was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and graduated from high school in St. Maries.

He worked for the U.S. Land Office in Spokane for 10 years and operated the Second Avenue Grocery from 1949 until 1970. He then worked as district manager for Field Enterprise Corp. in Spokane and retired in 1980.

He moved to Lacey seven years ago and was a member of the Lacey Senior Center.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie “Maude” Norbeck; two sons, Jim Norbeck of Olympia and Steve Norbeck of Seattle; two daughters, Julie Norbeck of Renton, Wash., and Susan Gese of Lynnwood, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Ella Brickey Spokane

Visitation for Ella M. Brickey, 68, will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brickey died Tuesday in Superior, Mont., where she was vacationing.

She was born in Spokane.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

Mrs. Brickey was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Grange.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Randolph Brickey; one daughter, Penny Schreiber of Moses Lake; one son, Randy Brickey of Pullman; one sister, Estella Johnston of Colville, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Naomia McNeil Oakesdale, Wash.

Service for Naomia Evelene McNeil, 90, is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Community Presbyterian Church of Oakesdale, Wash. Burial will be at Thornton (Wash.) Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McNeil died Monday at Tekoa (Wash.) Care Center, where she had moved four month ago.

She was born in St. John, Wash.

She and her husband, Alvin “Shorty” McNeil, farmed in the Thornton and Oakesdale areas.

In 1979, they moved to Spokane and her husband died in 1980.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church of Oakesdale,

Oakesdale Grange 1025, and the Granite Hill Club, and was a 50-year member of Hope Chapter of Oakesdale Order of the Eastern Star,.

Survivors include one daughter, Lila Jean Ellis; one brother, Buel Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Jo Gunderson of Tacoma; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tekoa Care Center or Community Presbyterian Church.
